Queen's University
To the Associate Dean (Academic):
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing this letter in order to appeal for the poor grades that could result in forthcoming dismissal from Queen's University for a minimum of one year due to poor academic performance in some subjects. I am writing with the hope that you can reinstate me at Queen's for next academic year by removing my failed courses from last year (2022). I am very grateful for the opportunity to explain my situation to you.
I was diagnosed with Covid-19 in February 2022. Although I was able to keep up with my courses at first, sometimes I was too tired to go to class and I fell behind in my work. But it gradually became worse with time. My appetite became poor and my sleeping cycle was disturbed. I lost some weight also. I thought losing weight would be in favor of my health as I was a bit obese before. It turned into a troublesome situation when I started to experience occasional blackouts out of nowhere. I have also been getting unconscious and recently had a seizure. Ongoing health issues greatly affected my academic performance. Although I was behind, I felt I could keep making up the work initially. Since I was unable to consume adequate food and have enough sleep, I failed to make up for the work I had missed, turning in poor grades in all my final projects, and final examinations. In hindsight, I have realized that I should discuss the situation with my professors, but at that time, I was terrified and unsure of what was going wrong with me and also I was hoping that I would get better gradually. I decided to see a doctor; Some blood work and other tests are done. In addition, I have been referred to a neurologist for further assessment. When I realized that I needed to withdraw, it was already past the withdrawal deadline at that point. As a result, despite my best efforts to study, I was unable to pass my exams that led to failure in all of these courses.
I enjoy studying at Queen's University and it is a dream to graduate on time from Queen's. Fortunately, I am currently being assessed again by my physician. I am following her advice and receiving the proper care by my family that I ought to have had earlier. I was not able to perform to my best last year due to unpleasant events in my life but will continue to work hard to achieve good grades in future. If I am reinstated, I am confident and determined I will be able to demonstrate my usual academic performance if given a second chance. I would, therefore, be grateful if you consider my appeal and give me one more opportunity.
Please find attached the documentation from my physician.
Thanks and best regards.
