I have carefully considered your petition request to add ECON 112 (S26) after the academic deadline. While I’m unable to grant this request, I want to assure you that I have taken your circumstances into account as part of this decision.
As you know, courses must be added on SOLUS within the published deadlines and Summer term enrolment began during the Winter term, in February. The deadlines for adding courses have been designed and established to provide sufficient time for students to obtain the necessary permission, assess their interest in the course material, to consider their ability to handle each course, and to evaluate their overall workload.
I recognize that you took this course in the 2026 Winter term and that you were hoping to repeat it within the Summer term through this petition request. I also appreciate the efforts you made to seek instructor support regarding enrollment in this course.
While I am empathetic to your situation and appreciate your motivation to repeat the course during the Summer term, I am unable to grant your request. Your academic record indicates that you have not successfully completed a full-time course load over the past three terms at Queen’s. In addition, you are already enrolled in 15.0 units for the Summer 2026 term, which exceeds the recommended course load. For these reasons, I cannot approve your request.
Starting a course in week 3 of a 12-week term places a student at a significant disadvantage and may negatively affect their likelihood of success. Instructors are not obligated to accommodate missed work resulting from late enrolment, and academic deadlines are in place to ensure fairness and consistency for all students.
If you wish to appeal this decision, you may submit an appeal to the Board of Studies.
