I have carefully considered your appeal to write your ENGL 486 exam (F 2015) earlier that the scheduled exam date. After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, students are required to write exams on their scheduled date. The Academic Regulations stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of the exam could be compromised if a student is able to view it prior to its scheduled time and inadvertently or purposely release any of the information, giving other students a potential unfair advantage.
Extenuating circumstances normally involve a significant physical or psychological event that is beyond your control and debilitating to your ability to write the exam on its scheduled date. Additionally, these kinds of extraordinary situations are normally supported by documentation from a professional.
While your circumstances are certainly difficult and I am sympathetic to your predicament, these are unfortunately not the type of circumstances that would warrant waiving this regulation. Students are strongly advised throughout the year not to make any travel plans or book any flights until the exam schedule has been released. No exceptions have been made to this rule to date so out of fairness to all students in the Faculty of Arts and Science, I cannot reasonably grant your request.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent.
