Dear Ms. Chen:
I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PHIL 111 (S 2014) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
I am granting this appeal solely because I have found a record that your mother did indeed contact the Continuing and Distance Studies Office and attempted to drop the course on your behalf one day before the deadline. However, it appears that you have made some poor choices with respect to your academics. The infrastructure failure in Weihai is extenuating, but it appears that this problem was resolved well before the drop deadline and that the instructor made reasonable attempts to accommodate you. By deciding to go on holiday while the course was in progress, and taking no action yourself to monitor and manage your course registration and instead relying on your mother was irresponsible. Any further appeals to the Faculty Office will be reviewed closely if they demonstrate that similar actions were taken again they will not be viewed favourably.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
