I have carefully considered your appeal to drop POLS 384 (W 2015) past the academic deadline, receive an extension of your incomplete grade in GNDS 311 (W 2015) and receive Aegrotat standing in POLS 358 (W 2015). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:
1. I will grant your request to drop POLS 384 past the academic deadline.
2. I will grant your request to receive an extension of your incomplete grade in GNDS 311.
You are permitted up to the June 15, 2016 to submit your late work and it is your responsibility to contact Professor Srivastava to make the appropriate arrangements.
3. I unfortunately cannot hear your request to receive Aegrotat standing in POLS 358.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.2.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 per cent of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all of the work of the course.€ The Appeal Regulations go on to stress that Aegrotat standing will only be granted under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond her control.
While your appeal does certainly describe some circumstances that are extenuating in nature and there is supporting documentation to confirm them, unfortunately we cannot collect the information needed to confirm your eligibility for an Aegrotat grade. Professor Haysom is no longer employed with Queen€™s and therefore, it is no longer possible to confirm the information needed to determine whether or not you are eligible for an Aegrotat grade and determine a final estimated grade. However, given your circumstances I would be willing to allow you to drop POLS 358 past the academic deadline instead. If you wish to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision letter to confirm your request. Once it has been received we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
