I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Aegrotat standing in MUSC 203 (W 2016) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.2.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 per cent of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all of the work of the course.€ The Appeal Regulations go on to stress that Aegrotat standing will only be granted under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond her control.
Extenuating circumstances normally involve a significant physical or psychological event that is beyond your control and debilitating to your overall academic performance and prevents you from being able to complete the course. Additionally, these kinds of extraordinary situations are supported by documentation from a professional.
Your appeal does not supply any documentation from a healthcare professional to confirm the timeline and severity of your sleep problem or the impact that it had on MUSC 203 in particular. There is also no evidence provided to confirm that your sleep problems are outside of your personal control. Without such documented evidence, I cannot reasonably grant your request.
