Dear Mr. Cmok Kehoe:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop BIOL 103, CHEM 112B, GEOL 104 and PHYS 117B (W 2016) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I would like to note that this is a lenient decision and I am granting your request because you are first year student and perhaps not yet experienced with the academic regulations. Students are expected to monitor their academic progress carefully throughout the year and drop any courses as needed within the academic deadlines. I understand that you were ill for two weeks during the winter term, but given your weak academic performance over the fall term, you were expected to assess your progress on an ongoing basis and drop courses well within these deadlines, which are set at week 8 to allow students plenty of time to make decisions. For the future, you are expected to make academic decisions within the drop deadlines.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I am confident that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.
