Dear Mr. Yuan:
I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Aegrotat standing in CISC 124 (W 2014). After reviewing your file I must deny your request.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.2.1. states that Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 per cent of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all of the work of the course.€ The Appeal Regulations go on to stress that Aegrotat standing will only be granted under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond her control.
While your appeal does describe some ongoing circumstances that are extenuating in nature, you do not appear to be eligible for Aegrotat standing. Professor Lamb confirmed that you have completed all of the required work for the course with the exception of 2 assignments but even after reweighting your final grade with those assignments excluded, you still have not earned a passing grade in the course. However, given your circumstances I would be willing to allow you to drop CISC 124 (W 2014) past the academic deadline instead. If you wish to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision letter to confirm your request. Once it has been received we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
It appears from your file that your personal challenges that have been occurring for over one year now are continuing to affect your studies. I strongly urge you to some seek help to assist you in actively managing and resolving your difficulties. I also urge you to monitor your academic progress very carefully over the next year and drop any courses as needed within the academic deadlines.
