Dear Ms. Hammond:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PSYC 370 (S 2014) past the academic deadline and receive Aegrotat standing in BIOL 321 (S 2015). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. Your final grade in BIOL 321 will appear on your transcript as D along with the notation €œAegrotat: Estimated Grade€.

I would like to note that this is your third appeal, in addition to 21-day deadline appeals, based on essentially the same extenuating circumstances. The appeal system is not designed to compensate for situations that are ongoing in nature, and which remain unresolved such that they continue to impact a student€™s academic performance. I recommend in the future, that you will assess your ability to complete each course that you take before the deadline to drop each term and make a proactive decision based on your current health situation and extent of completion of each course. It is important for students to assume this responsibility in cases where the extenuating circumstances are not resolved or are not well managed.

I am hopeful that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.
