Dear Ms. Sanborn:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ARTH 370, PHIL 296 (W 2014), ARTH 354, DEVS 100, HIST 200 (S 2014), ASTR 101, HIST 272 and WRIT 120 (S 2015) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I would like to note that dropping this many courses this long past the academic deadlines is an extraordinary measure and I hope that your circumstances are now resolved or well managed so that you can make a successful return to your studies. The appeal system is not designed to compensate for situations that are ongoing in nature which remain unresolved and thus, continue to negatively impact a student€™s academic performance. Upon your return to studies, I recommend that you assess your ability to complete each course that you take before the deadline to drop each term and make a proactive decision based on your current health situation and extent of completion of each course. It is important for students to assume this responsibility to better ensure academic success moving forward.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I am hopeful that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.
