Dear Ms. Asllani:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop CHEM 112B (W 2016) past the academic deadline as well as receive Credit standing in GEOL 104 and ENSC 201 (W 2016). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

I would like to note that this is your second appeal, based on essentially the same extenuating circumstances. The appeal system is not designed to compensate for situations that are ongoing in nature, and which remain unresolved such that they continue to impact a student€™s academic performance. I recommend in the future, that you assess your ability to complete each course you take before the deadline to drop each term and make a proactive decision based on your current health situation and extent of completion of each course. It is important for students to assume this responsibility in cases where the extenuating circumstances are not resolved or are not well managed.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I am hopeful that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.
