I have carefully considered your request to have your appeal heard after the 21-day timeline for submission. Based on the circumstances you refer to in your letter of appeal, I have decided to waive the timeline and grant your request to drop GPHY 102, GPHY 227, GPHY 243 (F 2014), GPHY 229, HIST 216, HIST 295 (F 2015) and GPHY 102 (W 2016) past the academic deadline.
The appeal system is not designed to compensate for situations that are ongoing in nature, and which remain unresolved such that they continue to impact a student€™s academic performance. I recommend in the future, that you will assess your ability to complete each course that you take before the deadline to drop each term and make a proactive decision based on your current health situation and extent of completion of each course. It is important for students to assume this responsibility in cases where the extenuating circumstances are not resolved or are not well managed.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
It is my hope that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.
