Dear Ms. Tuason:
As requested, I have carefully reconsidered your appeal to waive the Faculty ruling that you be Required to Withdraw for One Year. After reviewing your file with the new documentation you have supplied, my original decision to deny your request will stand.
While the letter you supplied from Dr. Sanchez-Guerrero confirms the timeline and severity of your medical condition, it fails to confirm that your symptoms are now being managed in such a way that they won€™t continue to negatively affect your studies (in fact, it seems to indicate that you are currently not able to function at full capacity.) I also note that your letter of appeal is almost identical to the one you submitted in April 2015, in which you said that you were beginning a new treatment and your doctors would be monitoring you monthly, hoping for improvement in your condition. Although I waived the requirement to withdraw last year based on this information, I€™m sorry to see that your academic record fails to show any signs of improvement. In the absence of clear information from your doctor that you are well enough to be successful academically, I feel that it is in your best academic interests to take the next year away to concentrate on regaining your health.
Keep in mind that you will be eligible to return to the university in the Fall term 2017. Upon your return we hope that you will take advantage of the support services available to you at Queen's. In returning to a regular course of study it will be your responsibility to choose courses carefully, seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance, and maintain an average consistent with the requirements for successful completion of your program.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies by August 5, as stated in my original decision letter.
