I have reviewed your appeal to change the grades you received in CHEM 112B, MATH 121B and BIOL 103 (Winter 2014) to Credit standing. After careful consideration of the documentation you submitted and the information supplied by the instructors about the circumstances surrounding these courses, I have decided to grant your appeal. Your grades in these courses will appear on your transcript as CR.
While I am granting your request, I do so with reservations. The documentation provided from Dr. Sullivan is insufficient, indicating only that you were ill and your ability to complete academic responsibilities was affected from June 23 to July 25, 2014, well after these courses were complete. The letter from Dr. Khanna does confirm that you experienced some extenuating circumstances in your first year of studies that required accommodation. However, your appeal failed to provide an academic plan, nor does it appear that you have yet developed a plan for managing your ongoing extenuating circumstances for the upcoming 2014/15 academic year. From your file there is no evidence that you made any effort to seek academic assistance during your first year at Queen€™s either. The appeals system is not designed to compensate for extenuating circumstances that are ongoing in nature for which the student is unable or unwilling to resolve or effectively manage. Therefore, any future appeals based on these same circumstances will be reviewed closely and will require a strong and detailed academic plan in order to be successful.
