Dear Mr. Lapena:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ARTH 228, ARTH 305 and ARTH 348 (W 2016) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

While I understand that you have a chronic health condition that you have been struggling to manage and it has posed significant challenges to your academic progress, the appeals system is not intended to compensate for such circumstances. Students facing these difficult, ongoing circumstances are expected to carefully balance their work load with their health needs in mind, monitor their progress very carefully, seek academic advice at the first signs of any problems and drop courses as needed within the drop deadlines. It is my hope that you will follow these steps in the future so you do not need to resort to using the appeals system continually for these reasons.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I am confident that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.
