Decision Letter
Appeal Number: 2633
Decision Date: September 21, 2016
Associate Dean: Johanne Benard, Ph.D.
Student Name: Henrietta Cory
Student Email: 6hsjc@queensu.ca
Course: GNDS 215
Term: Fall/Winter
Year: 2016
Category: Request an extension of an incomplete grade
Instructor: Melissa Houghtaling
Dear Ms. Cory:
I have carefully considered your appeal to receive an extension of your incomplete grade in GNDS 215 (FW 2015/16). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.
You are permitted up to the final day of the December exam period (December 21, 2016) to submit all outstanding work for this course and it is your responsibility to contact Professor Houghtaling to make the appropriate arrangements concerning deadlines and modes of submission.
I would like to note that this is a lenient decision. Your medical documentation is dated May 2, 2016 and confirms that you were unable to fulfil academic responsibilities from January to April, 2015 (I assume this is a typo and is intended to say 2016). You were granted an extension to submit your outstanding work by September 15, 2016 but I understand that it may have taken some time to focus on your recovery, receive treatment and adjust to your new vitamin regimen. However, I expect that you are now well enough to resume your work in this course, given that you are requesting a late extension and not a late course drop.
Should you find that you are not able to meet this deadline, any further appeals for additional extensions will require medical documentation that specifically addresses why you were not able to submit your work within this timeframe.
If you require any additional academic accommodations, please ensure that you are registered with Accessibility Services in the Student Wellness Services Centre (LaSalle Building) so their office can provide you with the resources you need. If you would like to receive some help with writing, using the library or finding a tutor, it is your responsibility to connect with Student Academic Success Services and arrange appointments. They can be reached at 613-533-6315 or learning.strategies@queensu.ca. Website: http://sass.queensu.ca/learningstrategies/
