I have reviewed your request to complete the winter term of your third year of your B.A. (Honours) degree with a Major plan in Health Studies via Athabasca University. As you know, Regulation 14.4 indicates that €œnormally the last two years of the Honours degree are taken in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen€™s.€ However, given the circumstances explained in your letter of appeal, and the support of the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies, I agree to this request.
In reviewing your remaining Degree Plan requirements, it appears that you still have several core courses yet to take which may be difficult to find equivalencies for through Athabasca University. In the event that you cannot complete any of your core courses until fourth year, you may run into issues with prerequisites and possible delays with being able to complete your degree at the end of fourth year. I would advise you to closely consult with your Department concerning the courses you plan to take at Athabasca University and work out a plan for fourth year to ensure that you can properly fulfill the Queen€™s requirements for your degree.
I would remind you to review the Academic Regulation 14 governing the taking of courses at other educational institutions. In particular, note that before you take these courses you must submit a Letter of Permission application to ensure that the courses requested will count at Queen€™s. You can obtain an application form at http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/student-forms Please include course descriptions with your application form as well as the application fee http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/student-forms (click on the €œpay now button€) It may take up to three weeks to receive your letter of permission.
Note that official transcripts with final grades must be received by the Faculty of Arts and Science Office by 15 May to be considered for graduation at Spring Convocation, or by 15 October for Fall Convocation. Finally, please keep in mind that you must achieve a minimum grade of C on each course taken on a Letter of Permission, unless stated otherwise.
