Dear Mr. Alefi:

I have carefully considered your appeal to request an extension of your incomplete grades in DEVS 220 (W 2015), HIST 272 (S 2015) and LLCU 209 (F 2015) as well as receive Aegrotat standing in RELS 131 (FW 2015/16). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

1. I will grant your request to receive Aegrotat standing in RELS 131. Your final grade will appear on your transcript as C along with the notation €œAegrotat: Estimated Grade€.

2. I will deny your request for an extension of your incomplete grades in DEVS 220, HIST 272 and LLCU 209.

According to Appeal Regulation 3.3.5: To request an extension of the deadline to submit incomplete work or to complete a deferred examination in a class, €œSuch requests are considered if the student has participated actively in the class and only one or two elements of the class have not been completed due to extenuating circumstances beyond the student€™s control. Students with extenuating circumstances who have been unable to complete the majority of the work in a class should consider an appeal to drop a class after the deadline rather than an extension of the deadline to submit incomplete work.€ We consulted with the instructors for each of these courses and in LLCU 209 you have completed 12 of the work required for the course to date, 30 for DEVS 220 and 55 for HIST 272. Taking this into account along with the general lack of instructor support due to the amount of time that has passed since these courses took place, I cannot reasonably grant your request for a further extension to complete these courses. However, I do recognize that you have faced considerable extenuating circumstances that prevented you from successfully completing these courses and for this reason, I would be willing to allow you to drop LLCU 209, DEVS 220 and HIST 272 past the academic deadline as an alternative option. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision letter and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
