I have carefully considered your request to have your appeal heard after the 21-day timeline for submission. Based on the circumstances you refer to in your letter of appeal, I have decided to waive the timeline and proceed with hearing your late appeal. My decisions are as follows:
1. I will grant your request to drop MATH 121 (S 2016), MATH 121 (FW 2015/16) and BIOL 103 (W 2016) past the academic deadlines.
2. I must deny your request to receive Credit standing in BIOL 102 (F 2015).
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.2.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed all of the work of the course including the final examination, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower€. In reviewing your appeal and your transcript, there is no strong evidence to show that you would have performed significantly better in BIOL 102 in the absence of any extenuating circumstances. In many cases, we can review the student€™s transcript to see a pattern of grades prior to the extenuating circumstances which gives a good indication of the student€™s usual academic performance. In your particular case, this is more difficult to assess as you are a first year student with few grades posted on your transcript. Without clear documentation to show how your performance in BIOL 102 was specifically impaired and what your usual level of academic performance in this course would have been under usual circumstances, I cannot reasonably grant this request.
