Dear Ms. Yusuf Mohamed:

I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Credit standing in HLTH 101 (F 2016), PSYC 100 (FW 2016/17), GNDS 125 and HLTH 102 (W 2017) as well as waive the Faculty ruling that you be Required to Withdraw for One Year. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. You may now resume your studies at Queen's University.

Given the circumstances described in your letter, I would also be willing to allow you to drop PHIL 153 (W 2017) and SOCY 122 (FW 2016/17) past the academic deadline. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.

I will also note that I am quite concerned about the incidents of racism you experienced on campus and I€™m sorry to hear that these incidents were not properly addressed. I think it is important that we address them now and I would like to hear more, if you are willing to meet with me. You are welcome to contact my Assistant, Katie, at f2deans@queensu.ca or 613-533-6000 ext. 79584 to set up an appointment time. Alternatively, I would encourage you to make contact with Ms. Stephanie Simpson in the Human Rights Office at 613-5336886 or hrights@queensu.ca (http://www.queensu.ca/humanrights/home). I would also like you to know that have a cross-cultural counsellor on campus who we can put you in touch with for support upon your return to studies in the fall. Her name is Dr. Arunima Khanna and if you would like to set up a time to see her, please contact our office and we will make a referral.

Upon returning to a regular course of study it is your responsibility to choose courses carefully, seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance, and maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements for successful completion of your plan. I hope that you will take advantage of the variety of support services available to you at Queen's. Academic counselling is available through an advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science Student Services Office (main floor Dunning Hall, phone 533-2470) or through your plan department. The Learning Commons in Stauffer Library also provides a range of services, including workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life. Further, the Student Wellness Services Centre located in the LaSalle Building at 146 Stuart Street (613-533-2506) offers personal and academic counselling free of charge to all Queen's students, as well as individual consultation to aid in coping with difficulties of a more personal nature.

If you have any questions about this decision, please feel free to contact the Faculty Office for advice or assistance. I wish you success in your future studies.

Yours sincerely,

Johanne Bénard, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
