Dear Mr. Yap Young:
I have carefully considered your appeal to waive the Faculty ruling that you be Required to Withdraw for One Year. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. You may now resume your studies at Queen's University with the following condition noted below.
Due to the nature of your previous difficulties, I have made the decision to place you on part-time status. It is my hope that the slower pace of part-time study will allow you sufficient time to remedy the personal and academic difficulties you have faced in the past and thereby enable you to be more successful in your future studies. Note that as a part-time student you will only be allowed a maximum of 18.0 units in the Fall-Winter session with no more than 9.0 units per term. In order to be eligible to progress from part-time to full-time studies, you must fulfill the following conditions:
1. Completed a minimum of 24.0 Queen's credit units, excluding repeated courses, from the time at which they were admitted part-time on a degree Program; and
2. Achieved a minimum Cumulative GPA of 1.90;
OR
1. Completed a minimum of 18.0 Queen's credit units, excluding repeated courses, from the time at which they were admitted part-time on a degree Program; and
2. Achieved a minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.90.

I will also ask that you contact the Faculty Office at 613-533-2470 to speak with an academic advisor and receive some advice concerning your courses for next year. You will need to repeat as many courses as possible to raise your GPA to 1.60 by next May when your academic record will be assessed again. Please read the document following this letter for further information concerning your current academic standing, what academic probation means and what the possible outcomes are. Over the next year, it will also be very important to monitor your academic progress carefully and if you feel that you are not doing well in any of your courses, to drop them on SOLUS within the deadlines to avoid your GPA dropping further. Finally, I would recommend that you consider seeing our Cross Cultural Advisor and Counsellor, Dr. Arunima Khanna to help you with your transition to Queen€™s and provide you with some advice and guidance concerning the cultural problems you faced last year. If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Upon returning to a regular course of study you will be responsible for choosing your courses carefully, seeking out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance, and maintaining a GPA consistent with the requirements for successful completion of your plan.
