Dear Mr. Thompson:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop PSYC 100 (FW 2016/17), ANAT 316 and HLTH 252 (W 2017) and BIOL 102 (S 2017) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

As I cautioned in my previous decision letter to you, please ensure that you monitor your progress in courses very carefully over the fall and winter terms and drop courses as needed within the drop deadlines, which fall at the end of Week 8 each term. The appeal system is not designed to compensate for circumstances that are ongoing in nature which cannot be resolved or effectively managed. Therefore, students with ongoing extenuating circumstances have a responsibility to determine their ability to handle their workload and assess their performance in their courses and make academic decisions, such as dropping courses, within the deadlines. If you would like to receive advice or assistance with these decisions, please contact the Faculty Office at 613-533-2470, main floor Dunning Hall and we will schedule you an appointment to speak with an academic advisor.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I am confident that in the future you will make every effort to inform yourself of the academic regulations concerning deadlines as they are outlined in Important Dates Section on the Arts and Science web page. These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.

Yours sincerely,

Johanne Bénard, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
