Dear Mr. Sainas:

Dean Blake reviewed your appeal and agreed to accept your request to have a formal re-read of your final grade in DEVS 292 from the 2016 Fall term. Your appeal was forwarded to the Department Head with a request to facilitate your re-read and investigate the issues you raised concerning your grade.

The Global Development Studies Department findings are summarized as follows:

- Grades are not adjusted based on student effort or need for a high grade point average. The instructor€™s USAT scores were reviewed and the Department is satisfied that the instructor made a fair assessment on the quality of your work.
- Grades are not awarded for scanning and/or couriering materials. There is no evidence that the instructor made such a request or that it would be included as part of the participation mark.

- Time spent discussing course material outside of the class is a normal part of the learning process and experience. It is not possible for an instructor to assess or measure this as any kind of grade, especially in the absence of documentation.

- The extra grade for attending the U of T lecture was added to the quiz grade.

- There is no evidence to show that the third quiz grade was an error. According to the syllabus, the quizzes were not marked as a group but as individuals, hence there is no connection to the other student€™s grade.

- The annotated bibliography and proposal instructions are clear. The proposal reflects hard work but does not do all the requested tasks. The grade of 70 is fair for the proposal.

The re-read results determined that there is no change to your final grade. Your grade in DEVS 292 will therefore, remain as B+ on your transcript.
As per Appeal Regulation 3.3.6, €œthe reconsidered grade, which may be higher than or unchanged from the original grade, may not be further appealed to the Board of Studies, as the Board has no academic jurisdiction.€

Sincerely,

Haley Everson
