Dear Ms. Staunton:
I have reviewed your request to complete the final requirements of your B.Sc. (Honours) degree with a Major concentration Life Sciences at the University of Guelph and McMaster University. As you know, Regulation 14.4 indicates that €œnormally the last two years of the Honours degree are taken in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen€™s.€ However, given the circumstances explained in your letter of appeal, and the support of the Life Sciences Department, I agree to this request. Please consult with your department regularly to ensure that the courses you select at your visiting universities will properly fulfill the Queen€™s requirements for your degree.
I would also like to remind you of Academic Regulation 16 concerning the maximum number of transfer credits you can apply to your Queen€™s degree:
No more than 54.0 units in the Program (60.0 for the B.Mus. Program) and no more than the following number of units in the Plan(s) may be transfer credits (grade of TR) from outside Queen€™s University:
(ii) For Major Plans, 24.0 units excluding supporting courses
According to your Academic Advisement report, you require a further 15.0 units to complete the requirements for your LISC Plan. Assuming that you take all of these 15.0 units on a letter of permission through Guelph/and or McMaster, that would leave you with 24.0 units in TR credits being used toward your Major Plan requirements (which is limit as specified above). Assuming that you follow through with your plan to take 9.0 units in elective courses on-line through Queen€™s, you should end up with 51.0 units in TR credits overall (which is under the 54.0 unit maximum permitted). Please ensure that you do not exceed these maximum limits.

I would remind you to review the Academic Regulation 14 governing the taking of courses at other educational institutions. In particular, note that before you take these courses you must submit a Letter of Permission application to ensure that the courses requested will count at Queen€™s. You can obtain an application form at http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/sites/default/files/letter_of_permission1_0.pdf Please include course descriptions with your application form as well as the application fee http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/student-forms (click on the red €œpay now button€) It may take up to three weeks to receive your letter of permission.
Note that official transcripts with final grades must be received by the Faculty of Arts and Science Office by 15 May to be considered for graduation at Spring Convocation, or by 15 October for Fall Convocation. Finally, please keep in mind that you must achieve a minimum grade of C on each course taken on a Letter of Permission, unless stated otherwise.
