Dear Mr. Elmor:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop LLCU 110 (W 2017) and PSYC 100 (S 2017) past the academic deadline as well as receive Credit standing in HIST 121 (FW 2016/17) and Aegrotat standing in ENGL 100 and PHIL 111 (FW 2016/17). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

I will grant your requests for the late course drops, Credit standing in HIST 121 and Aegrotat standing in PHIL 111.

I must however, deny your request for Aegrotat standing in ENGL 100. Your instructor cannot confirm based on the work you completed to date that you have met the learning outcomes for this course; therefore, I cannot permit an estimated final grade in this case. However, given your circumstances I would be willing to allow you to drop this class past the academic deadline instead. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.

I would like to caution you at this time that the appeals system is not designed to compensate for any circumstances that are ongoing in nature for which the student is unable to resolve or effectively manage. Moving forward, you must be responsible for managing your mental health challenges and making proactive decisions so they do not continue to affect your academic progress. If you find yourself struggling in your classes, I would advise you to consider dropping any classes as needed within the academic deadlines and consulting with an academic advisor to assist you with your academic plan and options for the future. Appointments can be made by calling 613-533-2470. Any further appeals based on these same circumstances will require documented evidence from a healthcare professional that you have taken the needed steps to address your health issues and you have taken proactive steps to manage your academic responsibilities.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent.
