Dear Ms. Johnson:
I have carefully considered your appeal to request an extension of your incomplete grade in PSYC 235 (FW 2016/17). After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.
Incomplete grades and extensions of incomplete grades are intended for situations where the student has actively participated in a course and completed the majority of the work required but due to unforeseen extenuating circumstances, has not been able to submit one or two remaining elements. While your appeal does certainly describe some circumstances that sound extenuating in nature, you have not yet completed any of the work required for PSYC 235. Furthermore, your medical documentation confirms that your circumstances are ongoing in nature and your estimated recovery time is still unknown so I am not convinced that you are in a position to successfully complete and pass this course.
However, I would be willing to further consider a late drop of PSYC 235 instead. If you would like to change your appeal request, you may email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this letter and I will review your appeal again. In this email, I would suggest that you also include an explanation as to why this course was affected by your circumstances in particular and not PSYC 251, which you also took last winter term.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent.
