Dear Mr. Potts:
Dean Bénard reviewed your appeal and agreed to accept your request to facilitate a formal re-read of your grade on your digital story assignment in FILM 110 from the 2016/17 academic year. Your appeal was forwarded to the Department Head with a request to facilitate your re-read and investigate the issues you raised concerning your grade.
The Film Department findings are summarized as follows:
- There is no basis for a re-read or reconsideration of the grade assigned. You are not arguing that the grade assigned is unfair or you are deserving of more marks.
- There is no issue surrounding accommodation. You were registered with QSAS and the approved accommodations were in place during the time this course took place. The situation that arose appears to be unrelated to your approved accommodations.
- Had you communicated the issue with your instructor or TA earlier, a solution could have been proposed and implemented.
- It is impossible to assess in terms of a grade value how you would have performed in this project had your entire group fully participated.
- You did well in this project despite this obstacle. You earned 81.25 which is by far the highest grade you earned on all components of FILM 110. Your performance at the mid-year mark was 15.25 and your winter term performance was 48.33. Even if your project grade were increased, it would not result in a change to your final grade.
The re-read results therefore determined that there is no change to your grade on your digital story assignment. Your grade in FILM 110 will therefore, remain as F on your transcript.
As per Appeal Regulation 3.3.6, €œthe reconsidered grade, which may be higher than or unchanged from the original grade, may not be further appealed to the Board of Studies, as the Board has no academic jurisdiction.€
