Decision Letter

Appeal Number: 4098
Decision Date: February 15, 2018
Associate Dean: Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Eun Lee
Student Email: 12esl1@queensu.ca

Dear Mr. Lee:

I have carefully considered your request to have your appeal heard after the one term deadline for submission, and have decided, based on the circumstances you refer to in your letter of appeal, to waive the timeline and drop ECON 255, ECON 390 and PHIL 347 (F 2015).

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. Instead, students should register with QSAS and work with an accommodation advisor to manage their academics. This could include taking a lighter course load and would include evaluating the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.

As this is your 3rd appeal based on the same circumstances and we have now changed 12 grades on your transcript, it is important to know that any further appeals based on the same circumstances are not likely to be granted.
.
Sincerely,

Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
