Dear Ms. Cole:
I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Aegrotat standing in PSYC 241 and PSYC 301 (F 2017). After reviewing your file I must unfortunately deny your request.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 per cent of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all of the work of the course.€ The instructor(s) involved must also confirm that the student has demonstrated an understanding of the course material.
Your instructor for PSYC 241 confirmed that you have only missed 5 of the work required and the Aegrotat grade would remain unchanged from your posted grade of C- (grades are not rounded up when they are pro-rated). However, given your documented circumstances and the fact that you essentially completed PSYC 241 I would be willing to allow you to change your grade your grade to Credit standing (CR) instead.
Your instructor in PSYC 301 confirmed that you have completed 60 of the course but that, per the syllabus, students must complete both the exams to earn a final grade. I therefore cannot allow an Aegrotat grade. However, in light of your circumstances I would be willing to allow Credit standing in this course as well.
If you would like to accept this offer of CR grades in one or both courses, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
