Dear Ms. Caldwell:

I have carefully considered your request to have your appeal heard after the one term deadline for submission. Based on the circumstances you refer to in your letter of appeal, I have decided to waive the timeline and grant your request to drop MATH 120, CHIN 100 (FW 2015-16), CISC 101 (S 2016) and MATH 110 (FW 2016-17) past the academic deadlines.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition and appeals to drop failed courses or change low grades to Credit will likely not be granted if they are based on the same circumstances. I encourage you to continue to work with QSAS to ensure you receive proper accommodation and to pause at week 7 or 8 and evaluate your progress. If you are not keeping up with readings, assignments and tests due to circumstances beyond your control, the appropriate remedy is to drop the courses(s) by week 8. Appeals for Credit and late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute.
