Dear Ms. Rymerson:
I have carefully considered your appeal to drop RELS 326, RELS 331, RELS 240 (F 2017), RELS 341, RELS 301 and RELS 163 (W 2018) past the academic deadline as well as request an extension of your incomplete grade in RELS 201 (F 2017). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:
1. I will grant your request to drop RELS 326, RELS 331 and RELS 240 late. The documentation supplied confirms the timeline and severity of your circumstances and the impact they had on your coursework over the fall term.
2. I must unfortunately deny your request to drop RELS 341, RELS 301 and RELS 163 late and extend your incomplete grade in RELS 201. Your appeal does not supply any documentation to confirm your circumstances over the 2018 winter term and there is no explanation supplied as to why you were not able to drop these classes by the week 8 deadline. Given that you have less than half of the course work for RELS 201 completed to date and this class took place nearly a year ago, I am not willing to extend the incomplete further. However, I am willing to allow you to drop this class late instead. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript. Further, if you are able to supply some documentation from a healthcare professional to confirm the timeline and severity of your circumstances over the winter term and speaks to the impact that these circumstances had on your course work, you may submit it within the next 21 days as well and I will be happy to review your appeal again with any new documentation included.
Your transcript shows that you are currently enrolled in a summer term class. Please proceed with caution and if you find that you are not able to keep up comfortably with the demands of the class, I would strongly advise you to drop it by the deadline posted on the Arts and Science Online website. The appeals system is not designed to compensate for circumstances that are ongoing in nature so remember that you are expected to balance your coursework and your personal responsibilities carefully and drop any classes as needed within these deadlines from this point forward. Until your personal challenges are resolved or are being well managed, I would recommend that you consider taking a break from your studies or reduce your course load to one or two courses per term for now.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Guidelines for appealing to the Board of Studies and the appeal form can be found at: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€) Do not use the on-line application for this process.
