Dear Mr. Reshetnikov:
I have carefully considered your appeal to waive the Faculty ruling that you be Required to Withdraw for a Minimum of Three Years. After reviewing your file, I must unfortunately deny your request but I can offer an alternative option instead.
Given that your appeal does supply some evidence of a significant health issue that occurred after the deadline to drop your winter term classes, I would be willing to allow you to drop POLS 264 and POLS 385 past the academic deadline. The removal of these failures from your transcript would subsequently remove the €œRequired to Withdraw€ ruling from your transcript, your academic record would be reassessed and you would receive notification of your new standing. You would also be eligible to return to your studies.
If you would like to accept this offer or if you have any questions about it, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript and/or provide you with further information.
I would however like to point out that prior to your concussion, both instructors in POLS 264 and POLS 385 described a pattern of sporadic attendance and assignment completion throughout the winter term. It was not clear from their correspondence that you were on track to be successful before your fall in late March. Going forward, please realistically evaluate the impact of your health and life circumstances on your attendance, ability to keep up with readings, studying and assignments at Week 7. If you find that you have fallen behind, ensure that you drop courses by the Week 8 deadline.
Note that any change in academic registration (e.g. dropping courses) may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding such as OSAP, scholarships, or bursaries. Please consult with the Student Awards Office (Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall) to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load. A change in academic registration may also affect a student€™s enrollment status as a full or part-time student, eligibility for student visas, or benefits through external agencies.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent.
