Dear Ms. Davidson:
I have carefully considered your appeal to drop BIOL 103 (W 2018) and receive Credit standing in CHEM 112 (FW 2017/18) and ANAT 101 (W 2018). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:
1. I will grant your request to drop BIOL 103 late. Your extenuating circumstances occurred past the winter term drop deadline so it is reasonable to allow a late course drop in this case.
2. I must deny your request to receive Credit standing in CHEM 112 and ANAT 101.
Your CHEM 112 instructor provided a breakdown of your grades and confirmed that despite your extenuating circumstances in March, your performance in the Winter term was significantly better compared to your performance in the fall term, before the crisis involving your friends occurred. Your ANAT 101 instructor also provided a grade breakdown and confirmed that your performance in this course was consistently low across the entire term, and there was no significant drop in performance after the crisis compared to before it occurred. Therefore, there is no evidence to suggest that you would have performed significantly better in CHEM 112 and ANAT 101 under any different circumstances. For this reason I cannot justify an alteration of your transcript.
Going forward, please note that you will be expected to drop courses by the drop deadline dates. That means stopping to reflect on your progress during week 7 & 8 and dropping any courses in which you have fallen behind by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems are more acute.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent.
