I have carefully considered your appeal to waive the Faculty ruling that you be Required to Withdraw for One Year€ and to drop ECON 111 (F 2017), ENGL 100 (FW 2017-18), HLTH 102 and ANAT 101 (W 2018) as well as receive Credit standing in BIOL 102, HLTH 101 (F 2017), BIOL 103 (W 2018) and PSYC 100 (FW 2017-18). After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request. Your grades in BIOL 102, HLTH 101, BIOL 103 and PSYC 100 will appear on your transcript as CR.
The€ Requirement to Withdraw€ ruling on your transcript will be removed due to the late drops and credit standings being granted and the impact that will have on your cumulative GPA. You may now resume your studies at Queen's University with the following condition noted below.
Based on the recommendation provided by Dr. Gupta that you take a reduced course load and register with Queen€™s Accessibility Services, I have made the decision to place you on part-time status. Note that as a part-time student you will only be allowed a maximum of 18.0 units in the Fall-Winter session with no more than 9.0 units per term. In order to be eligible to progress from part-time to full-time studies, you must fulfill the following conditions:
1. Completed a minimum of 24.0 Queen's credit units, excluding repeated courses, from the time at which they were admitted part-time on a degree Program; and
2. Achieved a minimum Cumulative GPA of 1.90;
OR
1. Completed a minimum of 18.0 Queen's credit units, excluding repeated courses, from the time at which they were admitted part-time on a degree Program; and
2. Achieved a minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.90.
It is my hope that the slower pace of part-time study and with support in place from Queen€™s Accessibility Services, will allow you sufficient time to remedy the personal and academic difficulties you have faced in the past and thereby enable you to be more successful in your future studies. Going forward, please note that you will be expected to drop courses by the drop deadline dates. That means stopping to reflect on your progress during week 7 & 8 and dropping any courses in which you have fallen behind by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Guidelines for appealing to the Board of Studies and the appeal form can be found at: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€) Do not use the on-line application for this process. Upon returning to a regular course of study it is your responsibility to choose courses carefully, seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance, and maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements for successful completion of your plan. I recommend that you heed the advice of Ms. Gupta and that you register with QSAS. I hope that you will take advantage of the additional support services available to you at Queen's. Academic counselling is available through an advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science Student Services Office (main floor Dunning Hall, phone 613-533-2470) or through your Plan department. The Learning Commons in Stauffer Library also provides a range of services, including workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life.
