Dear Ms. Wodehouse:

I have carefully considered your appeal to waive the Faculty ruling that you be Required to Withdraw for One Year€ and to drop GNDS 212, GNDS 280, GNDS 120, PHIL 276 and CLST 205 (F 2017) past the academic deadline date. After reviewing your file, I have decided to grant your request.

Given your circumstances, I am also willing to drop GNDS 120, GNDS 125 and GNDS 215 (W 2018). You currently have Incomplete grades in RELS 163 and RELS 236 (W 2018) and I am willing to drop those course late as well, if you prefer that they be dropped rather than completing the course requirements. If you would like to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision and we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.

Due to the nature of your previous difficulties, I have made the decision to place you on part-time status. Note that as a part-time student you will only be allowed a maximum of 18.0 units in the Fall-Winter session with no more than 9.0 units per term. In order to be eligible to progress from part-time to full-time studies, you must fulfill the following conditions:

1. Completed a minimum of 24.0 Queen's credit units, excluding repeated courses, from the time at which they were admitted part-time on a degree Program; and

2. Achieved a minimum Cumulative GPA of 1.90;

OR

1. Completed a minimum of 18.0 Queen's credit units, excluding repeated courses, from the time at which they were admitted part-time on a degree Program; and

2. Achieved a minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.90.

It is my hope that the slower pace of part-time study and with the support in place from Queen€™s Accessibility Services, you will be better equipped to handle the personal and academic difficulties you have faced in the past and therefore be more successful in your future studies. Going forward, please note that you will be expected to drop courses by the drop deadline dates. That means stopping to reflect on your progress during week 7 & 8 and dropping any courses in which you have fallen behind by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute.

If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Guidelines for appealing to the Board of Studies and the appeal form can be found at: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€) Do not use the on-line application for this process. You may contact Mr. Harry Smith, Office of the Ombudsman for advice on matters of procedure and on obtaining a representative. Upon returning to a regular course of study it is your responsibility to choose courses carefully, seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance, and maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements for successful completion of your plan. I recommend that you make an appointment to meet with Ms. Haley Everson, Assistant to the Associate Dean (Studies) who can review your academic standing and help guide you towards the successful completion of your degree requirements. I hope that you will also take advantage of the additional support services available to you at Queen's including the Learning Commons in Stauffer Library who provide a range of services, including workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life.
