Dear Mr. Shaughnessy:
As per standard practice, I have reviewed your appeal before it proceeds to the Board of Studies for consideration. Based on the new documentation you supplied with this appeal, I have decided to change my original decision and grant your request to drop ANAT 215, BIOL 330 (F 2017) and BIOL 341 (W 2018) past the academic deadline and receive credit standing in PSYC 271 (F 2017).
Your grade in PSYC 271 will appear on your transcript as CR.
Note that any change in academic registration (e.g. dropping courses) may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding such as OSAP, scholarships, or bursaries. Please consult with the Student Awards Office (Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall) to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load. A change in academic registration may also affect a student€™s enrollment status as a full or part-time student, eligibility for student visas, or benefits through external agencies.
It is your responsibility to choose courses carefully, seek out the advice necessary to improve your academic performance, and maintain a GPA consistent with the requirements for successful completion of your plan. I suggest that you take advantage of the variety of support services available to you at Queen's. Academic counselling is available through an advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science Student Services Office (main floor Dunning Hall, phone 613-533-2470) and the Learning Commons in Stauffer Library provides a range of services, including workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life. Further, the Student Wellness Services Centre located in the LaSalle Building at 146 Stuart Street (613-533-2506) offers personal and academic counselling free of charge to all Queen's students, as well as individual consultation to aid in coping with difficulties of a more personal nature.
Going forward, you should pause to reflect on your progress and assess whether you are actively engaged and attending classes, completing your readings and assignments during week 7 & 8. If not, you should drop any courses in which you have fallen behind in by the end of week 8 (the drop deadline). Appeals for late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems are more acute.
I also wanted to inform you of the Academic Consideration options which you can review at: https://www.queensu.ca/artsci/accommodations for future reference.
Yours sincerely,
Johanne Bénard, Ph.D.
