Appeal Number: 4651
Decision Date: August 1, 2018
Associate Dean: Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Student Name: Adrien Mindjimba
Student Email: 15am149@queensu.ca

Dear Mr. Mindjimba:

As per standard practice, I have reviewed your appeal before it proceeds to the Board of Studies for consideration. Based on the new documentation you supplied with this appeal, I have decided to change my original decision and waive the requirement to withdraw for one year but I am concerned that without significant improvement you may face a requirement to withdraw for 3 years (RTW3).

I strongly recommend that you carry a part-time course load (3 courses per term). You need to obtain an average of B next year to reach the required 1.6 GPA to be in good academic standing and avoid the RTW3. I encourage you to meet with an Academic Advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science Student Services Office (main floor Dunning Hall, phone 533-2470) in week 7 of the term to realistically evaluate your progress in courses and discuss strategies to avoid being RTW3 (e.g. if doing poorly in one course, drop that course). In addition, other services are available that may support you such as the Learning Commons in Stauffer Library which provides a range of services, including workshops designed to improve study skills and develop strategies for meeting the demands of academic life. Further, the Student Wellness Services Centre located in the LaSalle Building at 146 Stuart Street (613-533-2506) offers personal and academic counselling free of charge to all Queen's students, as well as individual consultation to aid in coping with difficulties of a more personal nature.

Yours sincerely,

Jill Atkinson, Ph.D.
Associate Dean (Studies)
