Dear Mr. Harnden:

I have carefully considered your request to have your appeal heard after the 21 day appeal deadline for submission of a Requirement to Withdraw for One year ruling was placed on your transcript. Based on the circumstances you refer to in your letter of appeal, I have decided to waive the timeline and grant your request to drop HIST 121, HIST 124, PHL 115, POLS 110 (FW 2017-18) and PHIL 153 (W 2018) past the academic deadlines. The dropping of these courses will also remove the Requirement to Withdraw ruling on your transcript.

I commend you on your decision to take a year off from your studies to continue to seek support from your family and doctor. It is my experience that students who pause their education for a period of time due to mental health challenges are much better equipped to achieve success in their academics upon their return to their studies.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

These deadlines have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.
