Dear Ms. Mak-Sanders:

I have carefully considered your appeal to drop MATH 124 and CHEM 222 (W 2018) past the academic deadline and receive Aegrotat standing in PHGY 211 (FW 2017-18) and BIOL 410 (W 2018). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:

1. To grant your appeal to drop MATH 124 and CHEM 222 (W 2018).

2. To deny your request for Aegrotat standing in PHGY 211 and BIOL 410. The instructors in both courses were hesitant to support your appeal as there is no evidence of whether you mastered the learning outcomes since you were unable to write the final exams. However, if you wish, I will grant you Incomplete grades in both these course should permission be granted from each of your instructors to allow you to write deferred exams. Please advise asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days if you wish to pursue this option.

If you wish to appeal this decision you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.

I have granted the late drops in MATH 124 and CHEM 222 based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances and encourage you to meet with your counsellor to discuss whether you should register with QSAS and work with an accommodation advisor to manage your academics if your symptoms persist. I also suggest that you consider taking a lighter course load and evaluate the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term. If you are still experiencing problems that are affecting your course work, please drop the courses by the deadline. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and give them adequate time to evaluate their progress in light of their health issues.
