Dear Ms. Mcleod:
I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Aegrotat standing in RELS 255 (W 2018). After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all the work of the course (see Academic Regulation 6)€. Aegrotat standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student€™s control and the learning outcomes of the course have been satisfied.
Your instructor had advised me that you missed two important components of the course including the major assignment worth 25 and the CORE which was assigned to the class. These are the heavier components of the course and essential elements designed to demonstrate the course learning outcomes.
I am however willing to extend the Incomplete grade in this course. The instructor has agreed that you are permitted up to January 15, 2019 at the latest to submit the outstanding components and has indicted that she would be happy to meet with you to help get these components on track so you can achieve a successful outcome in the course. It is your responsibility to contact Professor Michaelson to make the appropriate arrangements.
If you wish to appeal the Associate Dean€™s decision to the Board of Studies, you must submit an appeal to the Board of Studies within 21 days of the date this decision was sent. Guidelines for appealing to the Board of Studies and the appeal form can be found at: http://www.queensu.ca/artsci/students-at-queens/academic-appeals (click on €œBoard of Studies€) Do not use the on-line application for this process.
