I have carefully considered your appeal to drop CISC 110 (F 2018) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond his or her control.
I am certainly sympathetic to your situation and realize that this is a disappointing decision, however without supporting documentation which confirms this circumstance I cannot grant this appeal. You may want to consider retaking this course Chloe since the policy regarding repeats is such that the low grade would be excluded from your GPA and the higher grade would be included in your GPA. In the future, I encourage you to carefully review the syllabus for your courses regarding the expectation that you pass the final exam in order to pass the course. And finally, if you are unwell, you should not write the exam but should follow the academic consideration request procedure.
This is a difficult learning experience but one that will be valuable as you proceed with the pursuit of your university degree. It is ok to not do well in a first year course as you are exploring new fields during this particular year. The long term impact of a failure in first year should not weigh particularly heavy when, and if, you apply to a graduate program.
