I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ECON 240 (W 2018) past the academic deadline. After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond his or her control.
I certainly understand that you feel badly about not being successful in this course and had hoped the circumstances outlined would warrant the late drop of this course. However, the information we received from the instructor indicates that you wrote the 2nd midterm in this course in mid-March which unfortunately does not support the explanation that you thought you had dropped this course on February 8th when you dropped the BIOL 350 and ECON 239.
I would recommend that when you are applying to graduate school you address this grade by speaking to the opportunity you had to travel to India and the challenges you faced upon your return to catch up with your academic work during the Winter term 2018. It is my experience that Graduate Admissions committees are usually very understanding of this kind of outlier situation.
