I have carefully considered your appeal to drop CHEM 281 (F 2016) and PHGY 214B (W 2017); and to receive Credit standing in BCHM 218(W 2017), PHGY 214B (W 2018). After reviewing your file I have decided the following:
1. To grant your request to drop CHEM 281 (F 2016) and PHGY 214 (W 2017); and grant Credit standing for BCHM 218 (W 2017). Your grade in BCHM 218 will appear on your transcript as CR.
I have granted this appeal based on the extenuating circumstances you have described but I need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to manage an ongoing condition. Instead, I encourage you to evaluate your progress in your courses during week 7 of the term and if you have been unable to keep up with the course requirements, you should drop courses by week 8.
2. To deny your request to drop PHGY 214B (W2018). While I very much appreciate the effort you invested in this semester in retaking PHGY 214B, unfortunately the additional workload caused by enrolling in an extra course does not constitute extenuating circumstances.
I recommend considering sharing your particular circumstances in your applications to graduate programs if you feel comfortable doing so, as it may give context for your weak academic performance specifically during the 2016/17 academic year.
Please note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
