Dear Ms. Song:
I have carefully considered your appeal to drop ECON 240 (W 2019) past the academic deadline and have read that you wish to drop the course because you are concerned it will impact your GPA. Unfortunately that is not considered an extenuating circumstance and after reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, courses must be dropped on SOLUS within the published deadlines. The Academic Regulations (Appeal of Academic Decisions, IIIb) stress that exceptions to this will only be waived under extenuating circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by circumstances beyond his or her control. This is a difficult learning experience but one that will be valuable as you proceed with the pursuit of your university degree. Your academic record must be an accurate reflection of your progress and dropping a course without documented extenuating circumstances would not be in keeping with the aforementioned integrity of your degree.
I am certainly sympathetic to your situation and realize that this is a disappointing decision, however without extenuating circumstances which prevented you from dropping the course by the March 1st drop deadline date, I cannot grant this appeal. You may want to consider retaking this course QiuYi since the policy regarding repeats is such that the low grade would be excluded from your GPA and the higher grade would be included in your GPA. In the future, I encourage you to important academic decisions regarding dropping of courses by the week 8 drop deadline.
