I am sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. I am sure that has been really hard on you to lose a friend. That being said, I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Credit standing in ECON 239 and LAW 203 (W 2018). After reviewing your file I have decided to deny your request.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.3.2. states that, Credit standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed all of the work of the course including the final examination, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond their control, earned a substantially lower grade than might have been expected, normally a grade of C or lower.€ Credit standing is only granted in cases where there are well documented and unforeseen extenuating circumstances outside of a student€™s control. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control.
Information we received from both course instructors indicates that have not completed all of the course work as you had one or two outstanding assignments. Both of your instructors have told us you sent them emails reporting IT issues as being the reason why your assignments were not handed in. Also, the timeline as it relates to the documentation you submitted is not clear. These appear to be two very different issues.
As you stated in your appeal letter, that these grades have made it difficult to overturn your cumulative GPA, you may want to consider retaking these courses since the policy regarding repeats is such that the low grade would be excluded from your GPA and the higher grade would be included in your GPA.
