Dear Mr. Bajorek:
I have carefully considered your appeal to receive Aegrotat standing in ANAT 215, MUSC 273 and MUSC 292 (F 2014). After reviewing your file I will grant your request for AG grades in MUSC 273 and MUSC 292 but unfortunately, I must deny your request for ANAT 215.
As you know, Academic Regulation 10.2.1. states that, Aegrotat estimated standing in a course is reserved for situations in which a student, who has completed and passed at least 60 per cent of the work for a course, but because of illness or other extenuating circumstances beyond his or her control, is unable to complete all of the work of the course.€ The Appeal Regulations go on to stress that Aegrotat standing will only be granted under exceptional circumstances. The integrity of Arts and Science transcripts in general would be greatly diminished if the Faculty were to effect changes to students€™ records without clear and compelling documentation indicating that the student€™s performance was significantly compromised by extenuating circumstances beyond her control.
While your appeal does certainly describe some circumstances that are extenuating in nature, there is supporting documentation to confirm them and you have completed enough work in ANAT 215 to be eligible for Aegrotat standing, you do not have a passing grade on the work you have completed to date for this course. Professor Mackenzie confirmed that you have currently have an estimated grade of 41.6 (or F) to date. However; given your circumstances, I would be willing to allow you to drop ANAT 215 past the academic deadline instead. If you wish to accept this offer, please email asc.appeals@queensu.ca within 21 days of receiving this decision letter to confirm your request. Once it has been received we will make the appropriate changes to your transcript.
