Category: Drop a course after the academic deadline
Dear Simon Lindberg:
I was sorry to have read in your letter of appeal the difficulties you have experienced which have impacted your studies this year. Based on those circumstances as well as the documentation you have provided, I have decided to grant your appeal to drop PSYC 236 and PHAR 100 (W 2019) past the academic deadline.
I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. Appeals for Credit and late drops are generally reserved for those who encounter problems after week 8 or whose problems become more acute late in the term. I would strongly recommend that you follow through with your plan to register with QSAS who can help you manage your academics as well as your health. You were advised to register with QSAS in the letter you received on June 11, 2018 from Associate Dean Jill Aktinson who agreed to Waive your Requirement to Withdraw for one year. I am exercising some leniency with this decision since you did not follow that recommendation, nor did you follow the recommendation that you evaluate the impact of your health by week 7 and 8 of term. Going forward, a similar appeal will most likely not be granted if you have not adhered to those recommendations.
Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
I wish you success with your health related recovery and academic pursuits in the future.
Yours sincerely,
Jenn Stephenson, Ph.D.
