Dear Juanyu Lin:

I was sorry to read that you have been dealing with a medical condition which has worsened this term. After carefully considering your appeal to drop MATH 280 (F 2018) and MATH 281, CISC 124 (W 2019) past the academic deadline, I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. An appeal based on the same circumstances may not be granted in the future. I encourage you to continue to work with Student Wellness Services and, should your health issues continue to impact your studies, you should consider registering with QSAS. I was pleased to see that you dropped courses and took a lighter course load this term and suggest that you consider that remedy again going forward if you continue to experience health related challenges. It is important that you evaluate the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term and if you have fallen behind in the course work you should drop courses by the drop deadline. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.

Note that any change in academic registration may impact government or private-firm student financial assistance eligibility and/or funding. Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
