Dear Bridgette Doorey:

I was sorry to read that you have been dealing with a medical condition which has worsened this term. After carefully considering your appeal to drop DEVS 240, ENSC 200 and DEVS 293 (W 2019) past the academic deadline, I have decided to grant your request based on the circumstances outlined as well as your documentation. I also took into account your attempt to remedy your struggles this term by dropping two courses before the drop date. I am sure you were disappointed that your circumstances continued, but your decision to lighten your course load was a very good first step.

I have granted this appeal based on the severity of your extenuating circumstances but need to warn you that the appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. An appeal based on the same circumstances may not be granted in the future. I urge you to follow through with your plan to meet with your therapist this summer as well as make arrangements to meet with your counsellor at Queen€™s upon your return in September. I suggest that you consider registering with QSAS and work with an accommodation advisor to manage your health and academics as an additional measure. And finally, I encourage you to evaluate the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term. The drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students at Queen's.

Please consult with the Student Awards Office, Office of the University Registrar, Gordon Hall, to understand the potential implications of changes to course or program registration and/or the consequences of not successfully completing the required course load.
