Dear Bryn Harvey-Raymond,

I was sorry to read of the health difficulties you have experienced during the Fall 2018 term. After carefully reviewing your appeal have your grade changed to Credit Standing (CR) in PHGY 215 (F 18) and to drop PSYC 271, BIOL 243, CHEM 281 (F 18) and PSYC 221 (W 19) after the deadline, I have decided the following:

1. To grant your request to change your grade to Credit Standing (CR) in PHGY 215 (F 18) and to drop PSYC 271, BIOL 243, CHEM 281 (F 18) and PSYC 221 (W 19) after the deadline.

2. To deny your request to drop PSYC 221 (F 19) after the deadline.

I have granted your request to change your grade to Credit Standing (CR) in PHGY 215 (F 18) and to drop PSYC 271, BIOL 243, CHEM 281 (F 18) after the deadline based on your extenuating circumstances. The documentation submitted clearly reports the onset of the circumstances was in the Fall 2018 term. However, I have denied your request request to drop PSYC 221 (F 19) after the deadline because by the March 1st deadline, you knew of the situation you were dealing with and should have dropped more or all courses on your own. Also, the documentation submitted does not mention the Winter 2019 term at all.

I am also very concerned about your Summer 2019 enrolments being at 12.0 units. Typically, we recommend a student only take two courses at the same time as the Summer term is condensed. I would strongly encourage you to be aware of the published deadlines to drop courses, as taking on more courses as you can handle is not grounds for a future appeal. The appeals process is not meant to be used to manage a chronic condition. Instead, students should register with QSAS and work with an accommodation advisor to manage their academics. You should also pause and evaluate the impact of your health on your studies prior to week 8 of term. The week 8 drop deadlines, as they have been outlined in the €œImportant Dates€ section on the Arts and Science web page, have been established by the Faculty of Arts and Science to ensure a fair and equitable treatment of all students and to facilitate the timely completion of university studies at Queen's.
